Kitchen Remodeling

By LL Custom Contracting

Update the Hardest Working Room in Your Home

Your kitchen does more than any other room in the house. It's where the day starts, where homework and dinner prep happen at the same counter, and where everyone somehow ends up during a party no matter how big the rest of the house is.

When it's cramped, dated, or just poorly laid out, you feel it every single day.

At LL Custom Contracting, we design and build kitchens for families across Birmingham and the surrounding Oakland County communities that fix the flow, add the storage you're missing, update for aging-in-place living, and bring in the finishes you've been saving to a Pinterest board for years.

And because we start with an honest conversation about your budget and priorities, you'll know exactly what your kitchen will cost before the first cabinet ever comes out.

Signs It's Time to Remodel Your Kitchen

Most families don't decide to remodel overnight. It builds slowly, until the kitchen starts getting in the way of daily life. A few signs it's time:

  • You run out of counter space before the groceries are unpacked
  • The layout causes a traffic jam whenever more than one person walks in
  • You're planning to stay in your home well into the future
  • Your cabinets don't fit how you actually store things
  • Everyone crowds the same spot because there isn’t a designated space to gather
  • The finishes feel dated, or the appliances are on their last legs
  • The kitchen feels closed off from the rest of the house

If any of these sound familiar, it's worth an honest conversation about what a remodel could change and what it would take to get there.

FAQs About Kitchen Remodels in Oakland County

How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Oakland County?expand_more

It depends on scope, but mid-range updates typically run $80K to $120K, a full overhaul lands around $150K to $250K, and a luxury remodel ranges from $250K to $400K.

We'll give you an honest, detailed estimate upfront so you can decide where to invest before any work begins.

How long does a kitchen remodel take?expand_more

Most kitchens take between 8 and 14 weeks once construction starts, depending on the size of the project and any structural changes.

We build a realistic schedule with buffer time and back it with our construction timeline guarantee.

Can I stay in my home during the remodel?expand_more
Yes, most of our clients live at home throughout the project. Your kitchen will be out of commission for part of it, so we'll help you set up a temporary space and keep the work area clean and respectful the entire time.
Do I need to hire my own designer?expand_more
You don't. We'll connect you with trusted designers and architects from our network so your layout, finishes, and construction all stay coordinated from start to finish.
Can an accessible kitchen still look high-end?expand_more
Yes, and honestly, you wouldn't know it looking at most of the ones we build. Wider walkways, better task lighting, contrasting counter edges, and drawer storage are all things designers recommend anyway. The accessibility comes from dimensions and hardware selections, not from special-looking products. Nobody walks into the room and sees an accessible kitchen. They see a well-planned one.
How much space do we need for a kitchen that works with a walker or wheelchair?expand_more
Plan on 42 to 48 inches of clearance in the main work aisles, and a five-foot turning circle somewhere in the room. In a lot of Oakland County homes built before the 1970s, the original kitchen footprint won't get there on its own, which is why these projects often involve removing a wall, borrowing space from a pantry or closet, or folding the kitchen into a larger first-floor reconfiguration. We'll tell you early which one your house needs.

Our Process

1 | Consultation
Before you spend a dollar with an architect, we'll sit down and give you a straight read on your budget versus your wish list. Sometimes that means showing you what's well within reach, and sometimes it's a reality check, but either way you'll know exactly where you stand. That honesty upfront is what keeps the rest of the project on track.
2 | Plan
Once the vision is clear, we partner closely with your architect. If you don't have one, we'll introduce you to top local architects to put together a detailed estimate and a realistic schedule with a built-in buffer. You'll know what things cost and how long they'll take before the first wall goes up, not halfway through. Good planning is the difference between a stressful build and one you actually enjoy.
3 | Build
From there, our team gets to work with the craftsmanship that's earned us 20 years of referrals. We keep you in the loop the whole way with real-time updates and regular walkthroughs, so we can eliminate surprises. And if something isn't right, it isn't done; that's just how we operate.

Hear From Your Neighbors

"To this point, LL Custom Contracting has been a great company to work with. Chris, the owner, has done a great job of hiring the right people and simply doing business the way it should be done. They are well organized, communicative, pleasant to work with, they keep the project moving, and do great work. Management never hesitates to make things right for the customer."

Matt L.

"From the beginning to the very end of our project, our experience with L& L Custom Contracting was very satisfying. The project Team was very good about communicating and responding to our requests as they occurred throughout the entire project. The craftsmanship that was demonstrated on this project was very high-end and completed with attention to detail for us. The project superintendent, Steve, was Fantastic! His responses to our requests was immediate and was always amongst the best resolution and/or decisions that were made. Overall, we were more than pleased with L & L Custom Contracting and would definitely recommend them. Very happy with our project’s outcome!"

Tom J.

"Lincoln Capital provided funding for a project that LL Custom Contracting was the General Contractor. This project was one of the easiest and smoothest transactions we have done in years. In 26 years of construction management and real estate development, I have never wrote a review for a construction company until now. They were very professional and forward thinking of obstacles and potential risks that were possible. As a lost virtue in the real estate development business, this company did exactly what they said they were going to do, when and how they said they were going to do it. Plus they finished the project ahead of schedule and under budget. Thanks to LL Custom Contracting the owner was able to downsize his loan saving thousands over the next 25 years. I would highly recommending this company for any project."

Brian H.

"We financed and large project that was constructed by LL Custom Contracting and the process could not have gone smoother. The owner’s expertise in the industry made the process easy for everyone involved and the final project was nothing short of superb. I would recommend Chris and his team to anyone looking for custom-built solutions."

Brad K.

“I felt that I was working with highly qualified and very professional people. They addressed all construction issues in a timely manner and with great technical expertise. Above all else their team members are very friendly and easy to talk to. Any time a team member called me to address an issue at jobsite I was always eager to answer the phone because I knew that even if I didn’t have a solution right away they did. LL Custom Contracting is a very pro-active company which is rare in the construction industry. I look forward to working with then again."

John J.

"As an Architect, working with a Construction group like LL Custom Contracting is amazing because it’s a partnership between the design team and the construction team. This partnership creates an overall “Team” that is going to provide the best quality product possible for each and every client. I love working with Chris and his team and look back fondly to each and every project we have worked on together!"

George B.

"As the president and treasurer of 124 condos most of which are now 30 plus years old, having a capable, reliable and affordable company to address our maintenance needs is our highest priority. LL Custom Contracting has been our contractor of choice for several years now and the relationship continues to grow. In addition to always doing a great job, our owners are also complimentary of their attention to details and their courtesy. Being a board member for any complex is a challenge but it is made much easier by having a relationship with LL Custom."

Gary

"I am an architect and have worked with LL Custom Contracting for many years. They have built difficult and demanding custom projects for my clients and consistently done a fantastic job. Chris Lamphear is a real pro and so easy to work with! Patient, considerate, and very detail-oriented. Chris always gets the intent of our design and details and carries out the job with professionalism and integrity. I highly recommend them!"
